THE prolonged hot weather is claiming its toll on the fishing fraternity with many anglers not going in this hot weather.

The fish are not faring much better and as such.

Reading & District Angling Association are banning the use of keepnets on all of their Kennet venues from Padworth to County Weir in Reading. This includes canalised river venues.

This ban will come into force will be from this Friday (July 27) until further notice and is due to the rising temperature of the river.

Last weekend the only RDAA affiliated club out on the waters and that was at Wallingford B section on the Thames.

Tilehurst British Legion were the visitors and they found a fairly sluggish river.

Tony Tibble took the honours with 16lbs 6ozs and his net included one good chub plus roach and skimmers.

Runner up spot went to Simon Couling with 6lbs 4ozs of roach, skimmers and small chublets.

Completing the trio was Pete Godfrey with similar species that took the scales down to 5lbs 11ozs.

Away from RDAA venues Reading Fishing Club managed to turn out 17 anglers for the P.Berry Memorial Cup held at Child Beale River Thames bottom section venue.

The top end pegs produced the top six weights with skimmer bream and roach showing.

All anglers caught these species and Adam Durnford claimed victory with 20lbs 8ozs. Second place was claimed by John Berry with 11lbs 8ozs Third place went to Tony Scott with 10lbs 4ozs.
