LAST weekend saw five RDAA affiliated clubs out on the waters, writes Alan Hughes.

Courage/SE fished their match on the 4B section of the Kennet at Rose Kiln Lane and found the fish in an obliging mood for the first two hours before the sun came out and the fish disappeared.

Andy White took the honours with 4lbs 10ozs of silvers. Second spot was claimed by Aaron Phillips with 4lbs 2ozs of similar species and Fred Jones completed the trio with 3lbs 10ozs.

Beat 3B was the venue for Prestcold AC where Graham Hawkins carried on with his winning streak.

He netted 15lbs to take top spot and this consisted of one barbel (10lbs 1oz) and silvers.

In second spot was Graham Walker who weighed in 3lbs 6ozs of silvers and with similar species in third place was Mick Sheasby with 2lbs 14ozs. Several barbel were lost.

Tring Anglers fished the Ufton stretch of the Kennet where Tony Beadle took 7lbs 9ozs to the scales to take top place.

He had two decent bream plus small chub and perch. Second place went to Martin Rodwell with 3lbs 8ozs of silvers on the pole and completing the trio was Dave Moore, again with silvers on the pole.

Newtown looked at the Padworth Rota the day before their match and found it nearly empty of water due to a problem with a weir.

A call to Canals & Rivers Trust saw the problem resolved and the canal was refilled by the time of the match next day. Eleven anglers turned out for a 7am draw with the match fished from 8am-1pm.

Terry Smith took the honours with 3lbs 9oz of silvers. The runner-up spot went to Derek Carter with 1lb 1oz and one ounce behind was Roger Saunders.

Longwater Lake was the venue for Reading Fishing Club to provide 12 anglers for their match. Andy Woolsey claimed the Norris Goblet trophy after weighing in 19lbs 10ozs of bream and rudd.

Mark Hornblow was close behind with a similar net which weighed in at 18lbs 9ozs. Robbie Stephens completed the top three with also a similar net that totalled 10lbs 10ozs.

Tilehurst British Legion fished the Goring section of the Thames and match secretary Andy Chapman took the honours with 11lbs 8ozs of roach and skimmers.

Simon Couling claimed second spot with 11lbs 2ozs of roach and bleak.

Excelsior’s second fixture of the year was at FLE Greenridge Farm yesterday and Josie Sproat won the match with 185lbs 14ozs, Rose Balcombe was second on 166lbs and Pete Balcombe third with 125lbs 8ozs.
