GYLFI Sigurdsson made Reading FC history last night when he became the first ever Royals academy product to score in the World Cup finals.
The midfielder, who scored 22 goals in 52 appearances during his time at Madejski Stadium, stepped up to coolly slot away a 76th-minute penalty in Russia.
But his efforts were not enough to keep current Royals striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson's Iceland in the global contest as they eventually lost 2-1 to Croatia.
Elsewhere, Argentina's win over Nigeria thanks to a last-gasp Marcos Rojo means Iceland will be heading home.
Bodvarsson will head back to England and eventually join the rest of the Royals squad at Hogwood Park for pre-season training.
Meanwhile, Royals boss Paul Clement will face the media for the first time since last season this afternoon (2pm).
The Chronicle will bring you live updates from the event.
