THE Robert Piggott Junior School Girls U11s are Berkshire Cup champions after beating Thatcham-based Francis Baily Primary 1-0 at the Reading Madejski Stadium 3G pitch.
Piggott won their original group and defeated Willow Bank Junior School to reach the final for the first time in the school’s history.
In a very entertaining game which was a great advert for girls’ football in Berkshire, the Wargrave school were the eventual 1-0 winners thanks to a goal scored by Olivia Mortimer.
The team were unlucky not to add to their lead in the second half, but there was obvious delight at the final whistle as the school made history by winning the competition for the first time.
This is the second trophy the team have won this season after winning the Wokingham Schools’ FA tournament earlier in the year.
- WOODLEY United Under 12s Tornadoes are Berkshire Youth District League Plate winners after defeating Reading Rangers 6-3 on Sunday.
United took an early before Rangers levelled but it was Woodley who went into the break with a two-goal lead.
After the restart Reading pulled one back to reduce the deficit before United scored three times.
Rangers hit a late consolation in a well-fought encounter, but were ultimately well beaten.
