LAST weekend there were two RDAA Club matches with one on the River Kennet and one on the Kennet & Avon Canal.

Following the heavy rain in the week before, the Kennet looked very good with a good flow and decent level. But sometimes looks can deceive and that proved the case for Tilehurst Royal British Legion with their match at Burghfield River.

The only angler to weigh in was Mick Dedman and he managed to net a small roach and one chub of 4lbs.

Two trout were caught by one of the anglers but as a game fish they cannot be weighed in, so Dedman took the honours.

King Heron A.C. fished their match on the A section at Froxfield and Tony Franklin led the field with 4lbs 11ozs.

Sam Skilton finished in second place with 4lbs 8ozs and in third spot was Jeff Fisher with 3lbs 9ozs. All of the anglers caught silver fish.

Away from the RDAA venues, Excelsior A.C. fished the island stretch of the Thames at Clifton Hampden.

Gordon Hancock took the honours with a net of 90 silver fish that took the scales down to 9lbs 8ozs.

Tony Gee took the runner-up spot with 8lbs 8ozs with Tony Capewell and Pete Balcombe completing the trio with 7lbs 8ozs each.

Reading Fishing Club fished their Beale Trust lake in the second of their four-match pike series and the toothy critters were hard to catch as nine of the 11 anglers blanked but Jeff Ives showed the way as he banked three pike for 24lbs, the best one weighing in at 10lbs 8ozs.

Brian Willis claimed the runner-up spot with one pike of 8lbs 4ozs.

The RDAA Tuesday Club fished the Whitehouse lake on the Stacey complex at Tadley. Things were slow from the start especially after the coldest night of the year so far. As the day got warmer so the fish started to feed, albeit slowly.

Dave Bosher ended his barren run with three bream totalling 10lbs 2ozs. Second spot went to Terry Littlewood with two carp that took the scales down to 9lbs 8ozs and completing the trio was Dave Brent, with three carp for 9lbs.

This weekend will see the Association matches switch to the Froxfield venue at Hungerford for the winter.
