TWO members of the Reading Raiders’ committee pounded the town’s streets on Friday to promote the newly-named rugby league club.

Armed with 1,000 leaflets, chairman Andrew Belt, and president Cllr Josh Williams, visited businesses around Reading town centre to drum up support and distribute the flyers.

The pair had spent the morning working in Reading Borough Council’s Civic Offices, arranging fixtures for the season and working towards affiliation with the RFL – rugby league’s governing body – before treading across the town and stopping off for an impromptu visit to the Reading Chronicle’s office.

Belt said: “It was a really productive day and we got a lot done which will go towards setting us up for our inaugural season.

“Our general manager, Mike Farrow, produced the leaflets and they look great and hopefully will entice potential players to come on board. I’d like to thank my employer, University College of Estate Management, for allowing me the day as a voluntary day to further the cause of Reading Raiders.”

The club became Reading Raiders after a week-long public vote culminated last week.

The Raiders are keen for more players, volunteers and sponsors to join the club.
