YOUNG FARMERS across the county have been awarded a prize for donating the most blood in a friendly competition.

Berkshire's Federation of Young Farmer's Clubs (FYFC), based in Newbury, Bradfield, Shefford and Windsor and Maidenhead topped league tables out of the clubs across the country.

A trophy was presented to Katherine Bunn, county chairman of the Berkshire FYFC after the group made 21 donations and registered eight new blood donors.

"We are really proud to have picked up the award for being the federation to give the most donations and to have the most registered donors," she said.

"We worked hard to raise awareness among our membership about the benefits of giving blood and how it could save lives.

"Berkshire members and their families really got behind the national campaign and I hope that we will all continue to give blood and raise awareness about the importance of doing so."

The competition was run by the national federation of young farmers and NHS Blood and Transplant and helped nearly 300 patients during the month-long campaign.
