THE DEATH of a pet dog who died after ingesting a mysterious 'foreign object', believed to be at Prospect Park, was the centre of a council investigation today.

The pet's owners were left devastated after it died shortly after walking in the park. It rushed to nearby vets for emergency treatment, but there was nothing that could be done to save the tragic pet.

Animal Welfare Officers at Reading Borough Council have launched an investigation into the deaths, and have today warned pet owners to keep their furry friends on a lead when walking through the Tilehurst Park.

It was thought at first that two dogs had died after ingesting something at the park, but a council spokesman later confirmed that only one dog had been in the park.

Another dog in Wokingham also died yesterday in similar circumstances.

The spokesman said the authority would investigate the area of the park, between the car park and Liebenrood Road, to try and discover what the dog could have swallowed.
