A motorist was returning to their vehicle when they spotted the flames coming out from the bonnet of the car and one crew from Whitley Wood Fire Station was called to the scene at around 1pm to douse the blaze.
No one was injured but the engine compartment of the car was damaged and firefighters took around 30 minutes to put the fire out.
The Mercedes was the only vehicle involved in the incident at the service station between junction 11 and 12 of the M4.
