Residents of a care home were being found new places to stay after a man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of wilful neglect.

Police visited the Orchard Lodge care home, in Baskerville Road, Sonning Common, that specialises in dementia today, after receiving a report of neglect.

All the residents were being found homes to go to after the police and Oxfordshire County Council were investigating welfare issues.

The care home has space for 11 residents in seven single rooms and two shared rooms.

Detective Inspector Larry Johnson, from the Protecting Vulnerable People Investigation Unit of Thames Valley Police, said: “Our primary focus today was to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all of the residents.

“All of the residents were found to be safe and we have been working with the relevant authorities to ensure they have an appropriate place to stay.

“We treat all reports seriously and will investigate them. This investigation is still its early stages but we will keep the residents and their families informed.”

A man and a woman, both aged 62 years, from Reading were arrested on suspicion of wilful neglect and are currently in custody.

The home is owned by Mr & Mrs Nazmah Aubdool, of Reading, and on the carehome.co.uk it states "every resident has a personal care plans and every attempt is made to support independence, together with privacy and dignity. A healthy diet is organised to suit taste and lifestyle.

"Quality of care is safeguarded through a policy of on-going personal development, with the home looking to see all carers fulfil their professional potential."
