POLICE have today ended their investigation into the gang rape of a 19-year-old woman in Whiteknights Road concluding that no offence took place.
The alleged attack was reported to have happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning near the university's Whiteknight campus but following inquiries police are discontinuing their efforts.
Investigating officer Det Sgt Carl Bradford, from Reading Force CID, said: “A thorough investigation has taken place into the circumstances of this allegation. There is clear evidence that there was no offence of rape. The complainant is being supported.
“I would like to stress that no one should hesitate in coming forward if they have been a victim of crime of any sort. Thames Valley Police will support victims and witnesses throughout investigations in an attempt to prosecute offenders.”
