FIREFIGHTERS were called out to a kitchen fire in Tilehurst today after neighbours reported smoke coming out of a house on New Lane Hill.
Fire crews from Dee Road and Caversham had to force their way in to the property at 3.30pm and though the fire had burned out they had to use a ventilation fan to clear the house of smoke.
The male owner of the terraced house had left some food on the hob and accidentally turned it on before leaving. The kitchen suffered from small fire damage and the rest of the property was smoke damaged.
No neighbouring homes were affected and there was nobody in the house at the time.
