December 13, 1963 – BBC record Aldermaston York Nativity Play – “A retired general and an agricultural worker are among the cast of Aldermaston, Padworth and Wasing villagers whose voices will be broadcast on Sunday, December 22nd, on the BBC Home Service, presenting a 40-minute documentary programme on the Aldermaston York Nativity play.
This is performed annually, in the centuries-old church of St. Mary the Virgin.
When he was a reporter in Reading, Mr. David Shute “covered” the play one year and decided it deserved national recognition.
Now, attached to the Western Region of the BBC, he returned to Aldermaston at the weekend with an outside broadcasting unit. He will be producing the programme and introducing the cast.”
