A READING woman charged with attempted murder following a house fire in the early hours of yesterday has appeared in court.
Michelle Bennet, 41, from Gloucester Road, west Reading, was at Reading Magistrates Court today (Tuesday) and was remanded in custody. No date has been set for the next hearing.
Bennet was arrested in connection with a fire in the annexe of a house in Gloucester Road, at around 4am. A man was seen leaping from a window of the two-storey building and is believed to have broken a leg and suffered burns to his hands and face.
Firefighters from Dee Road, Caversham Road and Wokingham Road spent around an hour tackling the blaze and said last night the man was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital,
Police said today the 38-year-old injured man is being treated at a hospital in Chelmsford, where there is a specialist plastic surgery and burns unit.
