POLICE investigating the rape of a woman in Reading by two men this week are trying to track down motorcyclists who may have been in the area at the time.

The woman in her forties was attacked by two men outside the Mansion House in Liebenrood Road in the early hours of Wednesday morning. According to Thames Valley Police, one of the men then raped her.

The incident happened at around 2am, and police believe the attackers were disturbed by the noise of people on mopeds or motorbikes in the park nearby.

The two mens then left the victim and made off on foot towards Prospect Park.

Detective Inspector Dave Turton of Reading CID said that the victim had been left traumatised by the attack.

He said: "We are doing all we can to bring the offenders to justice.

"To that end we are particularly keen to speak to any moped or motorcycle riders who were in the park at that time.

"While riding motorbikes or mopeds is not strictly allowed in the park itself, we are only interested in what these riders may have seen or heard in relation to the attack."

Det Inspector Turton was quick to allay fears to women in the area, pointing out that crimes such as this are rare.

He added: "We would urge anyone who was in the area in the early hours of Wednesday morning and heard a woman in distress or saw two men running in the park area to contact us a matter of urgency on our non-emergency number 101."
