A 13-year-old school girl returned home from school to discover a burglar fleeing her home last year.
The young girl went home on Friday, December 18, to see Luke Spencer fleeing the scene having ransacked the house.
The 37-year-old admitted burgling the family home on Hazel Road in Purley-on-Thames at a Reading Crown Court hearing on Friday, August 5.
The Grovelands Road man has been sentenced to two years in jail after being charged in April.
Investigating officer, detective constable Craig Cole said: "This burglary had a traumatic effect on the family, especially the 13-year-old girl who came home from school to discover the offender fleeing the scene.
"He conducted a messy search of the property before stealing money, jewellery and a safe.
"This conviction will hopefully go some way to making the victims feel safe in their own home again."
