A CAR has been 'extensively damaged' following a collision in Tilehurst yesterday.

Firefighters were sent out to The Meadway at around 1pm after two cars crashed on Conwy Close.

One of the vehicles, a Ford being driven by a man, had to be removed from the road after the front wheel came off.

The other car was being driven by a woman, with both of the drivers believed to have suffered minor leg injuries.

Steve Collins, crew manager for Dee Road fire station, said: "We had a little crash up at The Meadway at around 1pm. Luckily nobody was injured.

"We were the only fire crew in attendance, but Thames Valley Police and South Central Ambulance were on the scene at Conwy Close.

"A man and a woman were involved in the two-car collision.

"It is not yet known whether any fault with either car caused the collision. The driver of a Ford, a male, was unharmed, but the car was extensively damaged.

"The front wheel came off and the airbags were deployed in both vehicles to prevent any further injuries.

"It is a timely reminder about the importance of working airbags, but we would also remind drivers not to sit too close to the wheel, as this can cause further injuries in an accident."

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police confirmed recovery was called and the vehicles were removed from the road.

South Central Ambulance added: "We were called at 13.34 reporting a two car collision outside Thames Valley School on Conwy Close.

"We sent a paramedic team leader and an ambulance to the scene.

"The two drivers – a 64-year-old male and a 33-year-old female - were both out of their vehicles on our arrival and both had sustained minor leg injuries.

"The male was taken for treatment and further assessment at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and the female was able to be treated at the scene."
