AN INVESTIGATION into the assault of a 10-year-old girl in broad daylight has been discontinued.

Police previously reported the schoolgirl had been grabbed by a man as she was walking in Norcot Road, Tilehurst at around 8.45am on March 8.

A public appeal for information was launched but officers have since closed the case and said they believe no criminal offence took place.

Following the incident Thames Valley Police dispatched extra patrols in the area to reassure neighbours and conduct further inquiries locally.

Investigating officer Detective sergeant Carl Bradford from Reading police station, said: "Following our investigation into this matter it appears at this stage that no criminal offence took place.

"Obviously this report was very worrying for people living around Norcot Road and so I hope this latest news provides some reassurance.

"If anyone has any concerns they wish to discuss with the police then please talk to officers on patrol or by calling 101."
