A MAN was rushed to hospital with leg injuries after he was cut free from his car on Sunday evening.
Emergency services were sent to the junction of the Bath Road and Russell Street at around 8.30pm.
Firefighters were made aware of a two-car collision on the busy stretch of road near the town centre and used battery operated cutting equipment to remove the roof of the car.
The driver of a silver Volkswagen was freed, but was taken to hospital with the assistance of a spinal board as a precautionary measure.
Ambulance crews, traffic police and two fire crews were called, while officers from Thames Valley Police diverted traffic away from the incident.
Fire crews secured the site following the collision for around an hour.
A spokesman for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) explained: At 8.37pm on Sunday, July 23, Thames Valley Fire Control Service received reports of a road traffic collision involving two cars on Bath Road, Reading.
"RBFRS crews from Caversham Road and Dee Road fire stations were sent to the scene.
"Firefighters used battery operated cutting equipment to rescue one man from the vehicle and he was transferred to the care of South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS).
"Crews were on the scene for about an hour."
SCAS has been approached for comment.
