A NEW canine star has shot to fame!

Fame, a five year-old Border Collie has been named a winner at Crufts 2017.

The clever canine and her owner Dave Munnings from Newbury, Berkshire have won two of the country’s most prestigious dog agility competitions by winning the Kennel Club Singles Agility and Kennel Club Agility Championships for large dogs at Crufts.

In front of the crowds at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts, Dave and Fame won in the Kennel Club Singles Agility large dog category after competing against nine other dogs and handlers on Friday 10th March in both jumping and agility and then in an agility final. To compete at Crufts, Fame and Dave qualified by gaining points at heats held at Kennel Club licensed shows throughout the country.

The pair then took first place in the Kennel Club Agility Championships for large dogs a few days later on Sunday 12th March. Large, medium and small dogs and their handlers who had won an Agility Certificate at a championship show in 2016 took part in the Kennel Club Agility Championships to compete for the title of Agility Champion.

Dave, who has represented Agility Team GB for many years with Fame and three of his other dogs, is a dog agility trainer and runs Q-Me Agility in Newbury.

He said: “I’m very excited and it’s about time she won. She’s a cool dog – she’s just the best and she really deserves it. She’s been a bit unlucky in the past, so I’m very happy she managed to go clear and show everyone just how good she is.

“I won the Kennel Club Agility Championships a few years ago with one of my older dogs, and it’s so nice to be back and winning it again.”

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “Huge congratulations to Fame and Dave for their double win at Crufts. They worked incredibly well as a team and should be proud of competing at such a high level in agility."
