A PENSIONER is preparing to take on a daring fundraising challenge in the hope of raising thousands of pounds to fight cancer.

Enid Vincent, 76, will be throwing her fears to one side on September 2 when she takes part in a wingwalk to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

The Caversham grandmother will be heading to Chiltern Park Airfield in South Stoke and has set a fundraising target of £2,000.

Enid was inspired to take part in the challenge after her brother was diagnosed with the condition and as part of her work with the British Darts Organisation (BDO).

She said: “Finding out my brother was diagnosed with prostate cancer gave me a real incentive to take on the challenge for Prostate Cancer UK.

"Working at the BDO and hearing about Martin Adams and his prostate cancer diagnosis, gave me that further motivation to do the wingwalk.

“I can’t wait to do the wingwalk and I am delighted to be raising awareness and much needed money to help beat prostate cancer.”

Currently, 11,000 men die from prostate cancer every year and Enid is hoping to smash her initial fundraising target, having already raised more than £1,700.

She has been working for the BDO for more than 30 years and will be presenting her cheque at the Open Darts Championships in Bridlington at the end of September.

James Beeby, director of fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK, added: “It is fantastic to see Enid has decided to take on such a brave challenge in order to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

"It is an incredible effort, one that will help us make prostate cancer a disease that the next generation of men do not fear.

“Currently one man every 45 minutes dies from prostate cancer in the UK. That is more than 11,000 men a year and by 2030, prostate cancer is set to become the most commonly diagnosed cancer of all in the UK."
