A BRUTAL attack saw a pedestrian kicked in the head several times on Christchurch Bridge last night (July 1).

Brave members of the public attempted to intervene and stop the offender, who was then abusive to other pedestrians shortly after 9.30pm on the bridge.

A 33-year-old man was taken to hospital after he was found in an unconcious state.

The attacker only stopped when the public stepped in and he made off in the direction of Caversham after he shouted at good samaritans.

He is described as a tall mixed race man, of at least 6ft 3ins tall, quite skinny, in his early twenties.

He had tattoos on his hands, which went up his forearms, black hair, with quite a high top and shaved sides.

The attacker was also wearing black jeans and a dark green jumper, with a big circular pattern on the back and long sleeves.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Amy Hickman-Holden said: “We believe the victim was helped by several members of the public while he was on the floor, unconscious and other members were subjected to verbal abuse from the offender.

“The offender was wearing distinctive clothing – a green jumper with a big circular pattern on the back.

“While we do not believe this was a random attack, it was a vicious one, with the offender kicking the victim while he was on the ground. So we would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the offence and who has not yet spoken to police to call us on 101.”
