AN ELDERLY couple and a family were involved in a head on collision while driving in Caversham earlier today.

No serious injuries were suffered but both cars were left significantly damaged after they impacted on the junction of Highmoor Road and Albert Road at around 11.30am.

Stuart Kemp was driving along Albert Road with his wife Jo and two 10 year-old twin daughters when their blue Peugeot was involved in a collision with a car coming along Highmoor Road.

“Everything went white from the air bags," said Mr Kemp.

"They came out so quickly the stitching on them gave me friction burns.

“My wife was in the front and two daughters were in the back. We were checked out by the paramedics who took my wife and daughters home.”

A man who lives in one of the houses on the corner of the junction compared the sound of the impact to two loud gun shots.

A collision investigation team arrived at the scene at around 12pm shortly after police, paramedics and fire services.

A spokesperson from Thames Valley Police said: “We were called to the scene at 11.35 for a two vehicle RTC. There were minor injuries and fire and ambulance attended.”

Both vehicles were being towed away from the scene at 1pm.

Highmoore Road and Albert Road remain open.
