A YOUNG woman was laid on a sofa for more than 36 hours before she died from a lethal cocktail of drugs she took at a house party, an inquest revealed.

Georgia Lafferty binged on substances including cocaine, MDMA and Ketamine while at a gathering in Coley on a Friday night.

An inquest into her death heard how the 28-year-old collapsed on the sofa and was smothered with a blanket because her friends thought she had passed out.

Two days later, with Ms Lafferty still on the coach, her pals noticed she was foaming at the mouth and called for paramedics.

But there were no signs of life when medics arrived and she was pronounced dead at the scene in Sherman Road.

Friends Michael West and Dennis Mills explained how Georgia attended the party on a Friday, but was not given medical treatment until Sunday evening.

Mr West, the landlord of the house where the party was held, spoke of her infectious personality and his shock after discovering her death at an inquest held at Reading Town Hall on Thursday, June 1.

He said: “We checked on her and offered her water. We just assumed she was sleeping.

“She received an upsetting text message that evening and her old boyfriend was at the party with someone else, but she was in good spirits.

“She was a stunning young woman and she was the life and soul of the party.”

Mr West said marijuana was known to be in heavy use on the Friday evening, but he was unaware of any other drugs taken by Georgia.

Ian Wade CQ, assistant coroner for Berkshire, concluded she died of cardio respiratory failure due to the toxicity of the drugs.

He added: “This is a tragedy of awful proportions and in many ways it is a reminder to us all that the body is not designed to be stimulated by these awful drugs.

“As far as I can tell, she had a vibrant personality and was someone who everyone would have been delighted to know, but she took a cornucopia of drugs and her body could not cope.”
