ROWDY Reading FC fans clashed with Brighton and Hove Albion supporters in the wake of Saturday's disappointing 3-0 defeat, police have confirmed.

A group of Royals fans were seen shouting obscenities as tempered flared following the match at Brighton's Amex Stadium, and some were tackled to the ground by police after refusing to calm down.

At least six people were arrested for various drink and public disorder offences after fans confronted each other outside the Grand Central pub, near to Brighton Station.

Pictures on social media showed dozens of officers surrounding fans as they tried to prevent the disorder from turning into violence.

A police spokesman said: "The football match between Brighton and Hove Albion and Reading at the Amex Stadium on Saturday (25 February) passed off without any serious incident.

"The city centre was busy before and after the game with supporters from both teams in lively but largely good-humoured mood.

"After the game there was some brief disorder at the Grand Central public house in Surrey Street, involving Reading fans and some from Brighton, but this was swiftly dealt with by police.

"Six men were arrested for various drink and public order related offences. during the afternoon and evening."
