A leading opposition councillor in Slough has been selected by her political party to fight for the newly crafted Windsor MP seat.

Councillor Pavitar Kaur Mann has been announced as Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Windsor.

She is currently the leader of the Labour group and a representative for Britwell on Slough Borough Council.

According to her biography, in her time as councillor, she spearheaded the award winning regeneration of Britwell, established the Slough Apprenticeship Awards and set up Slough Youth Parliament, leading to a national award by the Speaker of the House of Commons.

She serves as Armed Forces Champion and has been influential in ensuring that Commonwealth veterans are recognised locally for their service when serving alongside British troops.

Cllr Mann said: “I will stand up and be a strong voice for all residents in the new Windsor constituency.

“Residents have been badly let down by the Conservative government as well as by an absent local MP who has taken the voters in Windsor for granted.

“My priorities include; ensuring effective flood defences and driving improvements in water quality; tackling the cost of living crisis; full support for Windsor’s military community and their wider families; tackling knife crime that blights parts of Langley; protecting land from inappropriate development and importantly, being a visible, accessible and dedicated full-time MP.

“If elected as Windsor’s MP, I would fight for every resident of Windsor in Westminster and show the difference having a present and engaged MP could make.”

Cllr Mann is standing in the newly wrought Windsor constituency after the political map of England was redrawn in the summer of last year.

The constituency includes the Langley St Mary’s, Langley Marish and Langley Foxborough wards of Slough Borough.

It also covers the Colnbrook & Poyle ward of Slough Borough as well.

Cllr Mann has lived in the Slough area for the last 34 years and has been a councillor for 14 years.

She has previously served in a number of cabinet positions in Slough Borough, including being deputy leader of the council.

The Windsor constituency is focused on the eponymous royal town and its satellite villages, including Old Windsor, Ascot and Sunningdale.

The Virginia Water ward of Runnymede council in Surrey is also within the new MP seat.

Cllr Mann will face Conservative candidate Jack Rankin, Liberal Democrat challenger councillor Julian Tisi and Reform UK candidate Lawrence Petrie in the next general election.

It is understood Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, the Labour MP for Slough will be defending his seat in the upcoming election, which must occur no later than January 2025.
