A GoFundMe page has been created to help off-field staff at Reading Football Club.

This comes as employees were told that they would only get paid in part for the month, amid financial issues at the club.

With the cost-of-living crisis more prevalent than ever, Reading FC supporters have said that this ‘act of negligence’ is especially unforgivable.

The GoFundMe was created on Thursday, November 30, and is fully endorsed by both the Supporters Trust at Reading (STAR) and the Sell Before We Dai’ campaign.

Reading FC football fan, Mark Holton, has teamed up with Sarah Turner from the Supporters Trust at Reading (STAR) to ensure that the money donated is distributed to the correct people.

STAR is the independent, officially recognised body that represents the interests of Reading FC supporters to the Club, the media, and the local community.

Mark Holton said: “We all know what’s going on at our club is terrible but the staff only getting part paid this month is not good enough.

“Latest is they will be getting paid next Tuesday I believe, these staff haven’t even had a Christmas party for three years let’s give something back to them for all the hard work behind the scenes. Let’s help them Reading fans.

“Of all the issues Dai has caused, this one hurts the most. On-field penalties fall by the wayside when it's hard-working, local people working payday to payday losing out with bills and Christmas coming up.”

Reading fans who have kindly donated to GoFundMe left words of support for the organiser and the Reading FC staff.

Deborah Leach praised Mark for his dedication to the club.

She said: “Thank you for your dedication to my club despite all that is going on, it is acknowledged and appreciated by so many people. Thank you. To the future! And a very happy Christmas to you. God bless you all.”
