A POLICE officer who allegedly failed to self-isolate after coming into close contact with a covid-positive suspect could be sacked.

PC Denim Wade will go before a Thames Valley Police misconduct hearing later this month after he was accused of ‘failing to treat colleagues with respect and courtesy’.

The officer is accused of failing to tell his superiors that he was required to self-isolate after a man he arrested on suspicion of shoplifting in Reading tested positive for covid-19 less than 48 hours after he had come into close contact with him.

PC Wade, who is based at Reading Police Station, assisted in the suspect’s arrest and detention on November 25, 2020.

He was ‘in close contact’ with the suspect ‘for a ‘period of time’ having travelled with the suspect to custody in a car.

The suspect was held in custody and on November 27 they tested positive for coronavirus.

Operational guidance from Thames Valley Police would have required PC Wade to self-isolate.

TVP alleges that, knowing this guidance, PC Wade would have known he was required to self-isolate and that he failed to disclose this information to senior officers.

The force also claims PC Wade ‘deliberately omitted information relating to social distancing and amended an email to his supervisor advising the time of the suspect’s test in order to avoid having to self-isolate.

A Thames Valley Police report said: “By remaining in the workplace, the allegations are that PC Wade failed to treat colleagues with respect and courtesy.”

PC Wade will face a TVP misconduct hearing in Kidlington, Oxford from July 14 to July 16.

If the allegations are proven, PC Wade’s actions would amount to ‘gross misconduct’ and he could be dismissed by the force.
