A MURDER trial over the death of 13-year-old Olly Stephens has been pushed back.

Oliver Lucas Stephens, who was known as Olly, died after he was allegedly stabbed at Bugs Bottom fields, Emmer Green, on Sunday, January 3.

Two defendants, who were charged with Olly’s murder and who cannot be named for legal reasons, were set for the start of the trial today (June 21).

But they are now set to stand in the dock beginning Monday, June 28, instead.

A third youth who was also charged with murder over the 13-year-old’s death in January was not set to stand trial today.

Judge Norton, who is presiding over the case, put the delay down to technological and admin issues.

The Judge said: “There should have been arrangements made to this courtroom before today but that did not happen.”

Explaining the delay to the defendants, who both appeared at Reading Crown Court this morning, Judge Norton added: “This is stuff that is really for your lawyers and for me to sort out.

“That is going to take a couple of days for us to do.”

The court will spend the rest of the day selecting the jury -- a process the defendants will have to be present for -- before those selected are sent away for the rest of the week.

Barristers and Judge Norton will spend the rest of the week going over legal arguments before the trial is expected to start on Monday, June 28.
