BRITONS are being asked to scrap a historic wedding tradition this weekend - by not throwing confetti for the royal couple.

Thames Valley Police warned people planning on attending Meghan Markle and Price Harry's big day in Windsor not to throw the small pieces of coloured paper.

A spokesman said: "Thames Valley Police and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead along with other partner agencies have been working hard over the last few months to make sure that Windsor is ready to welcome 100,000 visitors to celebrate the Royal Wedding on Saturday.

"There will be lots of viewing points where those coming to join this national celebration will be able to watch the wedding as well as being able to cheer for the happy couple as they pass in the procession.

"In order to ensure that the event is a safe and secure occasion for everyone attending, and to help with the clean-up after the wedding, visitors are asked not to throw confetti or any other items at any time during the day, particularly during the procession.
