DETECTIVES investigating a brutal attack which saw a man beaten to the ground with a weapon have appealed for clues.

The victim, 29-year-old man, was walking near the parade of shops on Royal Avenue, Calcot, shortly after 11.30am on Tuesday, March 20.

His attacker then stepped out of a black BMW 3 series which had been parked outside on of the shops.

The victim suffered significant injuries to his head and it is believed a second man joined in the attack.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "The victim, a 29-year-old man was walking when he was assaulted by a man in a black BMW 3 series which was parked outside the shops.

"The driver of the vehicle assaulted the victim multiple times with a weapon, causing significant injuries to the head. A second man then appeared to join in.

"The victim attended Royal Berkshire Hospital but has since been discharged."

The car could be seen parked outside the shops on Tuesday, surrounded by blue and white police tape.

Officers confirmed a 26-year-old man and a 25-year-old man, both from Reading, were arrested in connection with the attack.

Detective Constable Robert Simpson-Jones, added: "We would like anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information about this offence to come forward and contact the Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101, quoting reference number '43180084754.

"We would particularly like to speak to the owners of a dark coloured Ford Mondeo, which was parked at the bay during the incident, as we believe they may have vital information that can help with our investigation."
