A CHARITY supporting vulnerable women has received a donation from the town's Labour councillors.

A cheque for £265 was presented to Alana House, a community project run by the Parents and Children Together (PACT) to help empower women and take control of their lives.

Dozens of women received help from Alana House last year through satellite services in West Berkshire, as well as group and one-to-one support.

Jan Fishwick OBE, chief executive of PACT, said: “Alana House is entirely funded through grants and voluntary income so we are always very grateful for donations such as this to help support this important service.”

PACT is run in partnership with Thames Valley Police, IRiS and Reading Borough Council’s Troubled Families service.

It works with a small team of low-level offenders who want to make positive changes in their lives, helping to reduce the strain on police and other emergency services.

Councillor Deborah Edwards, who organised the collection of personal donations, added: “The work that PACT does with some of the most vulnerable women, through Alana House, is vital and nationally acclaimed.

"It is a pleasure to raise funds to help fund this work and support the women and their families.”
