A TALENTED chef picked up a prestigious award after cooking up a mouth-watering meal
Stephen Selwood, junior sous chef at Oracle in Reading, picked up the national Young Chef of the Year gong.
The contest saw competitors create two fabulous dishes in just 90 minutes.
Twenty-three-year-old Mr Selwood's menu included grilled pork chuck steak with fennel salt crackling.
He was announced as the winner at the Heritage Chef of the Year awards in Luton recently.
Mr Selwood said: "Iām overwhelmed to have been recognised as the Young Chef of the Year at a national level against some really tough opposition.
"I am truly passionate about using local ingredients and even used fruit from my own family garden to create my dark chocolate cherry fondant dessert. Reading and its surrounding areas are abundant with incredible suppliers that provide some incredible produce, which I believe really helped me create winning dishes.ā
