A RARE biscuit tin in the shape of the FA Cup is being auctioned off this weekend, complete with the original biscuits.

Thimbleby & Shorland will be selling the 1927 biscuit tin made of aluminium at the Reading Auction Centre on Great Knollys Street on Saturday.

The tin was commissioned by the world famous Huntley and Palmers factory during Reading FC's sensational FA Cup run in the 1926-27 season.

Royals reached the semi-finals of the competition before they were beaten by Cardiff City 3-0 and the demand the for the tins declined.

However, due to the fall in popularity, the tins remain incredibly rare and only a few examples exist 90 years on.

There is one in Reading Museum and the auctioned trophy remains in good condition, but has been slightly damaged on the base.

A guide price of £150-£200 has been set and the unusual find is likely to attract interest with football fans, given the club's rich history as the 'Biscuitmen' due to the prolific nature of the Huntley and Palmers factory in the town before it closed in 1976.
