A HOME was left uninhabitable after a mysterious fire damaged most of the top floor.

Emergency services were sent to Beech Hill in Grazeley on Sunday afternoon when a blaze broke out.

Fire crews from Caversham and Whitley Wood were deployed and firefighters used hose reels and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.

It is believed that there were no rescues and nobody trapped inside the building.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but an investigation is underway.

A spokesperson for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service: "There was a house fire in Grazeley on Sunday afternoon which took out one bedroom and most of the top floor.

"There was also smoke damage to the rest of the building.

"Appliances from Caversham and Whitley Wood attended and we used breathing apparatus to put out the fire.

"The fire was heavily develop by the time we arrived, but we have no idea how it started.

"It would have been uninhabitable due to the damage and we made sure all of the electric supplies were turned off before leaving.

"A fire investigation is underway and we hope to find out more in the coming days."
