A MAN who was rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition following a car accident has died of his injuries.

Emergency services were deployed to Pound Lane in Sonning at around 7pm last night after a man in his 30s became trapped in his white BMW.

Firefighters freed the casualty from his vehicle and he was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the single-car collision to come forward with information following his sad death.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "We were called at 6.41pm last night (17/7) to reports of a single vehicle collision involving a white BMW on Pound Lane, Sonning.

"The collision took place at the roundabout junction with the A4 Bath Road.

"Fire and ambulance service were also in attendance.

"The driver of the BMW, a man in his thirties, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital where he sadly later died.

"If anyone witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to police, please call Thames Valley Police on 101 quoting URN 1387 of 17 July."

Crews from Caversham and Whitley Wood were sent to the busy stretch of road yesterday evening to free the man from his car.

It is unclear how the collision was caused and his next of kin has been informed.

Watch manager Matt Hoult, from Caversham Road Fire Station added: "We attended a very serious RTC last night at around 7.30pm.

"We were sent to Pound Lane just off the A4 near the Sonning roundabout and a male was trapped inside.

"On arrival the car was on its side and we extricated the male casualty. He had serious injuries and was taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital.

"It was a very serious collision and required the help of police and an air ambulance."

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 6.38pm yesterday evening regarding a single car accident, with the car having rolled over and the driver reportedly trapped in the vehicle.

"We sent an ambulance, a paramedic team leader and the air ambulance to the scene.

"The driver, a male in his 30s, had sustained life-threatening injuries and after initial treatment at the scene he was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital."
