READING Carnival will return after a two-year absence and the 2017 procession has been confirmed for Bank Holiday Monday (May 29) starting at midday.

A celebration of 40 years of carnival in Reading will involve traditional Caribbean music, dancing and food, hosted by Reading Caribbean Cultural Group (RCCG).

The carnival route will start at Hodsoll Road at 12pm, moving through Great Knollys Street, Bedford Road, Oxford Road, Grovelands Road, Water Road and Tilehurst Road, before reaching Prospect Park at around 2pm.

Sonia Walker, chair of RCCG, said: "The procession will feature the finest Caribbean music and masqueraders.

Reading Chronicle:

"The parade will start at Hodsoll Road at midday and progress via the Oxford Road to Prospect Park.

"We would love for you to take part by lining the streets for the parade and joining the festivities at the park until 7pm.

"Carnival is a truly inclusive and family friendly event, so everyone is welcome.

"You may notice the streets are a little noise and busier than usual. Rolling road closures will also be in operation for a short time."

Prospect Park will play host to the main stage of the event, with live music, DJs and dancers.
