THIS is the scene of the wreckage after a lorry veered off-road and crashed into a building site.

The heavy goods vehicle was travelling along Tilehurst Road when it suddenly crashed into a tower of scaffolding.

Council officers and emergency services are on the scene to clear up the debris.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision - which happened shortly after 1pm, but it became clear nobody was injured as a result of the crash.

The scaffolding, which covers part of the footpath, is propped up against a home at the end of a terraced road.

Residents on the scene suggested the lorry clipped part of the scaffolding as it went past.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said: "We got the call at 1.03 to Tilehurst Road. It was a HGV which had come off the road and hit some scaffolding.

"We sent an ambulance officer and an ambulance crew but fortunately nobody was injured so we were stood down."

The road is likely to be closed for several hours while the wreckage is cleared and the scaffolding is made safe.

A spokesman for Reading Borough Council said: "We recommend motorists take a diversion via Bath Road from the junction of Coley Avenue and Liebenrood Road to bypass this closure."

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "Officers were called at about 12.55pm today following reports of a single vehicle collision in Tilehurst Road.

"This was a damage only collision involving a lorry, and no one has been injured in the incident.

"The road has been closed while the vehicle is recovered and while the area is made safe for traffic."
