No or at least if they do have to they should make the online process easier. It's so complicated. The website is genuinely awful.

Parking permits work by allocating a reasonable number of reserved parking for the people who live on the road.

If you make people pay for permits, you're not magically increasing how many people could conveniently leave their vehicle near their house.

Instead you're making a parking permit a luxury that only some people would be able to afford.

I would rather they started charging for areas where there is currently free parking or develop better ways to manage the high volume of vehicles.

I would hope parking permits for residents in a particular road would be covered by their council tax payments, but could understand the need to pay for additional permits for visitors when a road is particularly congested (which doesn't mean I necessarily agree with them). It would be great to know what the fee funds apart from printing of permits and administration...

Speaking from my experience as a resident of Redlands Ward, I could easily see someone paying £50 for a first permit and a majority of the time, still not being able to find parking within 500 yards of his/her home. It's a problem that is not going to go away any time soon.
