READING FC issued among the fewest Football Banning Orders to fans in the Championship last season, official statistics have revealed.

Just 15 Reading fans were banned from attending games during the 2015-2016 season, well below the league average of 23.

Wolverhampton Wanderers fans received the most, with no fewer than 52 of their fans banned for unacceptable behaviour in the stands. Burnley fell second with 48 while Leeds United banned 47 of its supporters.

Roger Titford, deputy chair at Supporters Trust At Reading (STAR), said: "Over the last four years there’s been a significant decline of around a quarter in football banning orders and football-related arrests.

"In terms of Reading we’re talking about little more than a dozen people involved in each of these categories. Almost all the numbers in the Home Office report are going in the right direction, which we welcome.”

The figures, released by the Home Office, were a slight rise on the season before however, when just nine fans were subject to banning orders.

A spokesman for Reading Football Club added: "As a club we remain very proud of the behavioural record of our fans, both at home and away, in their unwavering support of the team up and down the country.

"And, at Madejski Stadium, we pride ourselves on making football accessible and enjoyable for every supporter who comes through the turnstiles, offering a safe and welcoming environment in which fans can enjoy our matchday experience.”

The best behaved club turned out to Milton Keynes Dons, which did not issue a single banning order in the 2015-2016 campaign.

Newcastle United fans received the most in the country, with 124.
