BOTH Reading parliamentary constituencies are set to be changed in the latest reform of electoral areas.

The Boundary Commission for England has tried to balance the population in each constituency across the country in the proposals set to take effect in 2018.

Reading East will gain and lose one ward each whilst Reading West will gain a ward.

The Maiden Erlegh ward will move from John Redwood's Wokingham Constituency to Rob Wilson's Reading East.

The under secretary of State for Civil Society will lose the Mappledurham ward in Caversham which will be transferred to his colleague Alok Sharma's Reading West seat.

Across Berkshire the number of constituencies will remain at eight although most seats have a ward added or removed to try and balance numbers across the country.

Sam Hartley, Secretary to the Commission, said: "Today’s proposals mark the first time people get to see what the new map of Parliamentary constituencies might look like.

"But they are just the Commission’s initial thoughts – during the next 12 weeks we want people to take a look and tell us what they like and don’t like about our proposals.

"Parliament has set us tight rules about reducing the number of constituencies, and making them of more equal size, and we now need the views of people around the country to help us shape constituencies that best reflect local areas.

"Use our website to tell us what you think, or come along to one of our public events to give us your views in person."

Four boundary commissions, one England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, were tasked with bringing back a report to cut the number of MPs from 650 to 600.

A 12-week consultation running till December 5 will give you the chance to have your say on the proposals. Visit www.bce2018.org.uk to take part in the consultation.
