MEMBERS of a tennis club served up an afternoon of garden games to bid farewell to long term volunteers writes Nimra Imran.

Mike and Hilary Moss, who have been part of the Sonning Tennis Club since 2002, will be moving from the area shortly.

To thank them for their services and volunteering for the club members threw an afternoon party with the theme a homage to the All England Tennis and Croquet Club.

Throughout the afternoon the courts were kept busy with games of tennis and the occasional rounds of croquet and visitors enjoyed the day with glasses of Pimm’s and soft drinks, with cake in abundance.

Romy Spindler, Chairman at Sonning LTC, said: “It was a very successful day, the rain held off and everyone enjoyed themselves, including the children who were playing various games.

“I’ve known Mike and Hilary for eight years and they will be remembered for their enthusiasm, their support for the new members that joined the club and Hillary’s fund raising efforts for Macmillan’s Cancer and Robby the Robot.”

Later on, Mike and Hilary were presented with gifts from the club by Tim Armitage, who is captain of the men’s team.

To remind them of the time they spent at Sonning Tennis Club, their gifts of a coffee machine and a glass vase were engraved with the club name.

Sonning Tennis Club, based in Reading, was founded in 1946 and offers group and individual coaching for players of all ages and abilities.
