READING Blue Coat School achieved a sterling set of results, with 27 students gaining at least three As and 11 at least two A*s.

Hitting similar percentages to 2015, 45 per cent of grades were A* to A, 79.4 per cent were A8 to B, 93 per cent were A* to C and 100 per cent were A* to E.

Four students will take up places at Oxbridge. Oliver Hague from Swallowfield will study Medicine at Oxford, Simon Church will study PPE at Oxford, Alex Miles will study Engineering at Oxford and Kate Patridge will study Experimental Psychology at Oxford.

Other notable successes came from Abby Dow, a former national swimmer and current England rugby player who achieved 3A*s, and Head Boy Will Batt, whose 3A*s will take him to Durham.

Philip Rowe, Deputy Head Academic, said: “These results are a superb testament to the hard work and dedication of both students and teachers at Blue Coat.

“It has been wonderful to see the level of academic progress that our students have made over the past two years, especially in light of how busy so many of them have been outside the classroom.

“I would like to think that Blue Coat reflects the spirit of the Rio Olympics – individual endeavour, coupled with ambitious determination, leading to outstanding attainment.”

At AS Level, 35 per cent were at A grade, 63 per cent at A and B and 99 per cent at A to E. Fifteen candidates achieved all A grades.
