A MAN has come forward and handed himself in to officers after a woman was sexually assaulted on a train.
The 28-year-old contacted British Transport Police following a media appeal involving CCTV images of a suspect.
Officers began their investigation after a woman reported being assaulted on the 4.24pm service from Reading to Ascot on January 3.
On February 2 a Reading man walked into the town's main police station to speak to detectives and was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "A man has come forward following a media appeal in connection with a sexual assault on a train to Ascot.
"On 2 February, a 28-year-old went into Reading police station after a CCTV image of a man detectives wanted to speak to was circulated to the public.
"He was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and has been released on police bail, pending further inquiries.
"Detectives would like to thank everyone who shared the appeal."
