RESIDENTS have bowed their heads for a minute silence on honour of the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris last Friday.

The borough's Mayor led a brief ceremony outside Reading Borough Council's office as the Union Jack was lowered to half mast.

Scores turned out to pay their respects as the Mayor of Reading, Cllr Sarah Hacker asked the town to remain united and think of those affected by terrorist attacks around the world.

She said: "I think it is important that we reflect on what happened this weekend in Paris.

"It is also worth reflecting on what is going on around the world as Paris was not the only place there was a tragedy last week.

"There was also Beirut and the Russian Airliner that they believe was down to a targeted attack

"We need to remember to remain united. This is not a time for division within our community."

Cllr Hacker particularly warned about being misled by messages on social media.

On Friday 129 people were killed and hundreds more left injured following a series of suicide bombings and shootings in the French capital.
