HOMETOWN defender Tom McIntyre has signed a new deal to stay at Reading FC for another three years.

The academy graduate’s future has been up in the air following the end of his current deal but the youngster has finally put pen to paper on a bumper new contract.

McIntyre, 22, will now remain a Royal until summer 2024 having started his career at the Madejski aged 8.

Royals boss Veljko Paunovic said: “Tom was a young fan of Reading Football Club, he learned his trade within our academy, he has established himself in his boyhood club’s first team and now he is a big part of its future.

“I’m delighted he has committed to three more years as a Royal.”

McIntyre played 28 times for Reading in the 2020-2021 season filling in at left back, centre back and centre midfield.

The Berkshire born and bred star made his first-team debut in December 2018, away at Rotherham United, shortly after his 20th birthday.

Chief Executive Dayong Pang added: “I am delighted that Tom has signed a new deal with Reading – he is an ambitious young man who has become an increasingly important member of the squad in the past few seasons.

“Tom is a local boy who is passionate about this club, and he is a fantastic example to the future generations in our Academy.”
