With Euro 2020(1) in full flow, attention has left the domestic leagues and especially the Championship. Although many Reading fans will still be looking out daily for transfer incomings.

The market is ‘officially open’ and any deals between English clubs can now be conducted as well as free agents being able to agree terms with new clubs.

Deals with international teams can be agreed with terms finalised on the July 1.

This is the same with any players whose current contracts officially end that day.

Teams across England’s second tier have therefore already been busy in the market.

Below Ben Waite takes a look at the confirmed incomings ahead of the 2021/2022 SkyBet Championship season.

Barnsley will be looking to challenge for the playoffs again this campaign after a surprising fight last year.

They’ve lost star striker Daryl Dike but have moved swiftly for a replacement with Devante Cole joining from Scottish side Motherwell.

Another side who finished in the playoffs were Swansea City who also lose a host of key players including Andre Ayew who departs the Welsh side.

The Swans have made early moves for two players with Kyle Joseph arriving from Wigan Athletic and a £1million fee agreed with PSV for forward Joel Piroe.

Cardiff City challenged the Royals for seventh spot during the run-in and they have also turned to the market early doors.

Irish international striker James Collins arrives in South Wales on a free transfer from Luton Town after the expiration of his contract with the Hatters.

Mark Warburton’s QPR were another side to finish the campaign strongly and have moved fast to nail down their loan stars from last season.

Charlie Austin and Sam Field have both signed permanent terms from West Brom as well as defender Jordy de Wijs from Hull City after a successful loan spell with the West London side last season.

Andre Dozzell made it four early incomings at the Kiyan Prince Stadium moving from Ipswich Town.

Luton Town have also had a busy start to the summer. Fred Onyedinma arrives from Wycombe Wanderers in a transfer supported by club donations during the pandemic while Reece Burke also joins after leaving Hull City.

Money was also spent by the Hatters to acquire the services of midfielder Allan Campbell from Motherwell for an undisclosed fee.

The biggest set of new faces have come at Huddersfield Town who after a disappointing campaign will need to reinforce.

Josh Ruffels arrives from Oxford United, Matty Pearson from Luton and Ollie Turton from Blackpool as defensive options.

They have also brought in goalkeeper Lee Nicholls from MK Dons and have turned to a familiar face in attack with Jordan Rhodes returning to the club from Sheffield Wednesday.

Both Millwall and Middlesbrough will be aiming for a better season and have both brought in new goalkeepers.

Joe Lumley has linked back up with Neil Warnock joining Boro from QPR while George Long has swapped Tigers for Lions as he joins Millwall from Hull City.

Scott Malone has also agreed to turn his loan deal into a permanent move from Pride Park to The Den.

Elsewhere, Preston have turned Liam Lindsay’s loan move from Stoke City into a permanent deal and Riley McGree has returned to Birmingham City on a new loan deal from US expansion side Charlotte FC.

Three teams were promoted from League One and both Hull City and Blackpool have already bolstered their squads.

Champions Hull have acquired George Moncur from Luton, Andy Cannon on a free transfer from Portsmouth and Randell Williams on a two-year deal from Exeter as they look to avoid the drop again.

Blackpool have added three players so far.

Reece James joins from Wigan, Shayne Lavery from Irish side Linfield and goalkeeper Daniel Grimshaw links up with the League One play off winners after leaving Manchester City.
