Two former Reading FC targets have been released by their respective clubs.

The Royals have previously expressed an interest in signing 28-year-old striker Conor Wickham and 28-year-old midfielder Muhammad Besic.

Besic was one of a number of players released by Everton, with Yannick Bolaside and Theo Walcott also among the players let go by the Toffees.

The Bosnian international was linked with a move to the Madejski Stadium during the January transfer window.

Besic struggled to make an impression during his seven year spell at Goodison Park, making just 56 appearances for the club.

Middlesbrough took Besic on loan twice and Sheffield United took him on loan during the 2019-20 season.

He suffered a cruciate injury in August 2016 which ruled him out of action for 32 games.

Former Royals academy prospect Conor Wickham has also been released.

Crystal Palace let the striker leave the club after a six-year stint at Selhurst Park.

Former Royals manager Mark Bowen was keen to bring Wickham to the club in January last year, but a deal between the two clubs

The 28-year-old striker has been let go by Crystal Palace, according to the official Premier League list of released players.

Wickham was a target for Royals in last January’s transfer window, with then-boss Mark Bowen keen on bringing the former Ipswich Town and Sunderland player to Madejski Stadium.

Another player who has struggled with injuries in recent years, Wickham was sidelined for the entirety of last season.

Elsewhere, former Royals midfielder Oli Pendlebury has sealed a move following his release from the club.

Pendlebury, a former England under-16 captain, joins Wycombe Wanderers’ development squad after making one appearance for the first team last season, in the1-0 FA Cup defeat against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.
