READING FC loan signing Tommy Elphick has confirmed he will be out of action for six weeks.

The centre-back, who Reading brought in from Aston Villa late in the transfer window, went off injured just 30 minutes into his home debut on Saturday against Millwall.

He was taken off and replaced with Tyler Blackett, and now has taken to Twitter to confirm he won't be back in the side any time soon.

He tweeted: "Gutted I had to have a minor op this morning but was a good outcome and I’m in very good hands. I will hopefully be back in 6 weeks thanks for the messages."

The 30-year-old made his debut in the 3-1 away win at Burton Albion on Tuesday January 30, and made his first start in the 2-0 defeat against Millwall.

Most Reading fans seemed impressed with the veteran centre-back, as he appeared to slot into the team well.

This news will no doubt be a blow to both Elphick and Reading, as they look to bounce back from Saturday's defeat with a trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday February 10.
