MIDWEEK goalscorers Chris Gunter and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson have backed Reading FC to beat Millwall tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm ko).

Royals finally got back to winning ways with an emphatic 3-1 victory over fellow Championship strugglers Burton Albion on Tuesday night.

A brace from Icelandic international Bodvarsson and a rare long-range strike from Welshman Gunter earned Jaap Stam's side their first win of 2018.

And the duo backed their team-mates to tame Neil Harris's Lions and begin a winning run.

“We want to get on a run of games and hope that we can get the results to match our performances,” said Gunter.

“We did that against Burton and we move onto Millwall on Saturday now, and it’d be a really good time to put back-to-back wins together back at home. That’s definitely the plan."

Böðvarsson added: “It’s a winners’ mentality that we need to have – we need to get on a roll. It’s far from over.

“It was a great win against Burton – really, really positive for the atmosphere and for our confidence – so we’re happy with the points. But there’s a lot of games coming up.

“We need to be up for it, and hopefully we’ll do well.”

Royals could hand full debuts to both Tommy Elphick and Chris Martin following their loan moves from Aston Villa and Derby County respectively.

John Swift , Paul Mcshane and Omar Richards are all set to miss out with hamstring injuries while long-term absentees Callum Harriott, Stephen Quinn, Joseph Mendes and Jordan Obita remain out of contentions.

Lions meanwhile could hand a second debut to club legend and Australia legend Tim Cahill, who returned to The Den after a 14-year absence.

Relegation-threatened Royals currently sit in 18th place and could jump up to 15th if results go their way.

They have to win by more than four goals and need Queens Park Rangers, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday all to lose in order to leapfrog Millwall in 14th spot.
